How to Avoid Visa Application Mistakes

A visa application is worth taking your time over, whether you are trying to secure entry clearance into a country to work, study or for permission to enter a particular country while you are in transit on your way to another final destination. Before you part with your money and submit your visa application, you must make absolutely sure that you avoid careless mistakes. It will save you time and money, as your visa application is less likely to be denied or sent back for revisions.

Submit the Right Visa Application

Start off by thoroughly researching the visa that you need before you set pen to paper. This can take time, so do not rush. There is nothing worse than sending off a visa application only to find out later on that you applied for the wrong visa! Oftentimes, a visa application fee is non-refundable, which will leave you out of pocket and right back at square one if you carelessly apply for the wrong benefits.

Do Not Be Afraid to Ask Questions

Many of the nagging questions you have about your visa application will be answered within the accompanying guidance notes and FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) pages on websites. But if they are not, do not be afraid to ask questions. Email or call the appropriate immigration authority to find out exactly what you need to do.

Answer Questions Fully and Truthfully

Visa applications ask a lot of personal questions, some of which can be confusing or require a lot of research before you can be sure that you have the right answer. The key is to answer them all truthfully and as fully as possible once you have had time to think them through and provided just the right information. If you require additional space to elaborate further on a question, write down the information on a continuation sheet, taking care to label the page that corresponds to the appropriate question.

Read Questions Carefully Before Answering

It is also important to make sure you are answering questions about the right person. You need to look at who the questions are addressed to so that you do not make any careless mistakes in your visa application form.

Visa applicants should be careful to only provide answers that relate to the “sponsor”, as these relate to your spouse, employer or some other person who is acting on your behalf to get you into the country, only when asked to do so. Reading through each and every question carefully will help you to avoid making this careless visa application mistake.

Visa application forms can be stressful to complete. After all, submitting an application places control over your future into someone else’s hands, which places a heavy burden of responsibility on your shoulders to get things done right first time around. Take your time and ask questions if you are not sure of the answers. If you allow yourself plenty of time, you should not need to worry about making careless visa application mistakes.
