Which Documents Are Required To Submit A Visa Extension In Vietnam?

Visa extension is now the best way to prolong your stay without leaving Vietnam. However, Before doing a visa extension, you must know clearly about required documents and the procedure to do it. What are the documents you should prepare and how can you submit a visa extension request? This article will help you to answer these questions.

1/ General requirements for visa extension submission

In order to do a Vietnam visa extension, you firstly need to check your documents to see if they match the conditions advised by the Vietnamese immigration law:

  • Passport must be valid for more than 6 months from the time of extension and has at least 2 blank pages;
  • Passport or visa certificate must include a valid Vietnam’s visa and latest entry stamp into Vietnam
  • The required documents for doing a business visa extension must have a sponsored company in Vietnam;
  • The duration/ term of the new visa extension shall be at least 30 days shorter than expiry date of the passport;
  • Only a limited number of nationalities are eligible to apply for a visa extension in Vietnam, and the requirements change accordingly to the nationality and current visa type;
  • Providing the proof of residential registration certificate in Vietnam certified the local police station.
  • Fill out the extension application form (NA5)

 2/ Required documents for Vietnam tourist visa extension and visa exemption

Foreigners who come to Vietnam for the purpose of travelling, relative visitor containing a valid visa and passport marked the visa type of DL, VR or visa exemption stamp should prepare the following dossiers.

  • The original passport;
  • A valid Vietnam visa marked as DL, VR or visa exemption stamp
  • A copy of extended visa in Vietnam (if any)
  • A copy of latest entry date stamp and port of entry name;
  • Current address in Vietnam (if any);
  • Original copy of residential registration certificate in Vietnam certified the local police station where foreigner is staying (if any)
  • Visa extension form (NA5)

3/ Required documents for Vietnam business visa extension

Foreigners who come to Vietnam with the entry purposes of working, doing business, investment, the visa type will be granted on the passport as LV, LĐ1, LĐ2, DN1, DN2, ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3, ĐT4. Extending this type of visa must have a sponsor company in Vietnam to sign and seal all the forms of visa extension. The applicants must prepare the following documents:

  • Company’s legal entity files (notarized certified copy of business registration certificate or investment registration certificate or establish Representative Office)
  • Seal registration certificate and tax code registration certificate (if any);
  • The original passport;
  • A valid Vietnam visa;
  • Vietnam work permit or work permit exemption certificate (if any);
  • Visa extension form must be signed and sealed by company’s legal representative
  • Original copy of residential registration certificate in Vietnam certified the local police station where foreigner is staying.

4/ Where to submit visa extension request?

According to Vietnam Immigration law, you can come to any Immigration offices in the city/ province you are currently living/ working to submit visa extension request. However, it is recommended to come to 3 main cities Ha Noi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh city to submit visa extension. These three main cities will receive the request and process it faster and easier.

Immigration office in Da Nang: 7 Tran Quy Cap, Da Nang City

5/ How to simplify the documents and procedure for Vietnam visa extension?

There is also another way to submit visa extension easily. Instead of coming directly to the immigration office, you can come to visa agents in your province and ask for visa extension. The visa agent will collect the service fee, and process your visa extension. Of course, the fee you pay will higher than what you do by submitting directly, but you will eliminate a lot of paper works, complicated procedure and also save time.
