How Many Days Before Expired Date Can I Submit Visa Extension In Vietnam?

My Vietnam visa will expire soon and I want to do a visa extension to prolong my stay in Vietnam. When can I start the visa extension application? Is there any requirement related to the submission date of Vietnam visa extension? How many dates before expiry date can I process visa extension?

In fact, all types of Vietnam visa have the expiry date. And all visa holders need to leave Vietnam before this expiry date or making a visa extension to get another duration permission of staying in Vietnam. All the cases of overstaying will be considered as the black list for the next entry into Vietnam, or can be deported from Vietnam. So the first thing you must note is, you have to take action before the expiry date.

The visa extension submission can be processed on the expiry date, one day before expiry date or several days before expiry date. However, you should note:

  • The working time for Vietnam visa extension service is from Mon to Fri, not included Sat and Sun and Vietnam holidays. If you expiry date is on weekend or holidays, you must submit it on the working day before this weekend/ holiday. For example, your visa expiry date is August 9th 2020, but it is Sunday. You must submit visa extension no later than Friday August 7th .
  • The new validity of your visa extension will be counted from the date of submission, not continue as the old valid date. So you should submit it on the nearest date before your expiry date to get a full visa extension period. For example, your visa expiry date is August 11th If you submit the 3 months visa extension on August 11th , your new visa will be valid until November 11th . If you submit on August 7th , your new visa will bevalid until November 7th .

However, for Vietnam visa extension submission, you must prepare some required documents. If you come on the exact date of expiration and the documents are not well prepared, you will overstay. It is very risky so you should take action at least 7 days before expiry date.

Another option is giving your passport to the travel agency who are professional in visa service. Your original passport is all they need to process the visa extension, so you don’t need to worry about complicated documents and procedure. You can send passport to them 7 days, 3 days or even 1 days before the expiry date, and they will know the best way to submit your Vietnam visa extension request.
