How Long Can I Extend My Vietnam Visa?

When visa is about to expire, visa extension is the best option to prolong your stay in Vietnam without leaving the country. However, how long can you stay more in Vietnam with a visa extension? What is the maximum time a visa extension can provide to you for new staying permission? We will find out the answer through this article.

1/ What is a Vietnam visa extension?

Getting a visa extension means to acquire permission from the government to stay longer in Vietnam when your current visa is about to expire. You are able to extend your visa in Vietnam without leaving the country. However, you should apply to extend before your current visa expires. If not, your visa will be expired and overstayed, and it’ very difficult to process visa extension.

2/ How long can I extend my Vietnam visa?

For visa extension, you can submit your request for the period of time you wish to stay more. However, each type of visa only has some specific options which you can extend. So, how much longer you can stay more in Vietnam will depend on the type of visa you currently have:

– If you enter Vietnam with 15-day visa exemption, you can extend your visa for a further 15 days, 1 month or 3 months. Kindly note that you cannot return again using a visa exemption within 30 days.

– If your current visa is 1-month visa, you can get it extended for another 15 days, 1 month, 2 months or 3 months.

– If your current visa is 3-month visa, you can get it extended for another 1 month, 2 months or 3 months.

– If you enter Vietnam with a temporary residency card, you can get an extension for another 1 month, 3 months.

– If you enter Vietnam with a 5-year exemption certificate, you can get an extension for another 1 month, 3 months or 6 months.

– If your current visa is 1-year visa, you can get it extended for another 1 month, 2 months or 3 months.

3/ How long does it take to process a Vietnam visa extension?

After providing passport and related documents for visa extension submission, your visa will be granted within 5 – 7 working days. For urgent request, it can be done in 2 working days.

4/ Procedure of Vietnam Visa Extension

To extend your visa, you should:

First, send to our email info@vietnam-evisa.com your nationality, picture of your current visa and immigration stamp, as well as how long you want to extend.

After getting your request, we will reply immediately to your email: whether you can extend or not, how many options of extension you can choose, the price for each option.

Second, our staff will come to your address to collect passport for visa extension application.

Third, after 5 working days for normal process, our staff will bring back your passport with visa extension stamp.

Important Notes for Vietnam Visa Extension:

Your visa extension must be submitted at least one day before the expiry date (not included weekend and Public Holidays). It doesn’t matter if the extension is not done before your visa expiry date.

Due to covid 19, those who entered Vietnam later than March 1st, 2020 will be automatically extended visa until July 31st with not action required. For those who enter before March 1st, 2020 , a visa extension is required and must be done before expiry date of the current visa.

When submitting visa extension in pandemic period, a health declaration is compulsory.The declaration can be filled in online at https://tokhaiyte.vn/ or on paper. The declaration form is available in English, Chinese, South Korean, Italian and Cambodian, local media reports.
